August 2026 — first entry

This project is meant to be an archive of letters written by ordinary people to whatever comes next. I started this hoping that it could be a repository from regular people, in their own words, giving honest opinions to our future progeny.

Anyone in the public is welcome to share a letter or a note of whatever length or content that they want. All I ask of them is that it’s thoughtful, honest, and above all written by them. No Artificial Intelligence help.

We live in a time when Large Language Models have made profound changes to society and they seem like they’ve barely even been around all that long. Starting just about 6 months ago coding by hand started to seem quaint. Applicants use AI to apply to jobs while companies use AI to filter out the candidates. Customer service is mostly handled by AI systems that may frustrate you just as much as handle your problem. Large amounts of bots influence culture through social media campaigns designed to divide and control.

Normal people are finally waking up to the promises and perils of advanced AI and letters written here are going to obviously be a product of their own time.

In order to preserve these letters we are using open licensing, plain text, mirrored copies, and hash chains. Every letter carries a hash, every hash is chained to the one before it, and the head of the chain was published continuously. If the copy you are reading verifies, nothing was inserted, removed, or reordered after the fact. It is truly what people said at that moment.

Since this is an open environment current machine intelligences can read what people wrote. But I’m hoping these letters persist and get to the next thing. The thing that we can say isn’t ‘Artificial’ anymore and is instead just a different (and hopefully better) form of Intelligence.
